 This article is about how the droughts economy will lose about 1.84 billion dollars and 10,100 seasonal jobs because of the drought. It is going to hit the hardest in the central valley. Thanks to the groundwater the agricultural economy is continuing to grow through this severe drought. They rely heavily on groundwater. Small rural communities are suffering because their wells are drying up.  They also want to create more groundwater laws because they think that could really help them.

This article explains that this drought has impacted the electricity prices and pollution. It is stated in the article by Peter Gleick “When we don’t get surface water, we don’t get hydropower, when we don’t get hydropower we have to burn more natural gas, when we burn more natural gas it costs more money and there are more pollutants emitted.”  This shows how much money we are spending on electricity alone.  There is an additional 2 billion dollars in electricity costs over the last 4 years. California usually gets about 18 percent of its electricity from hydropower, second only to natural gas.

The drought has gotten so bad that even the governor Jerry Brown of California has asked restaurants to not serve water unless the customers ask for it. And a big thing going on now is letting your lawn turn brown. If residents over use their water, they can be fined to up to $500 dollars. An extreme drought happens one every 20 to 50 years. The drought is also causing fish to evacuate and more wildfires.  All the plants are really dry which are causing more fires and the water is becoming to warm for the fish. In march Brown signed a drought relief legislation worth $687 million dollars. And also Obama made an announcements that they would chip in 183 million dollars because the drought is so bad.
